Then

I design video games for a living. Previously, I was...

Making beats

  • Thinking about making beats for Novembeat with the Orba.
  • Enjoying the Inktober sitelen sitelen ritual.
  • Trying to resume my meditation practice, and failing. Again.
  • Learning more about myself and my inner workings. It's enlightening and terrifying.
  • Searching a quick and dirty workflow involving the Zynthian and the Orba.
  • Making little progress on my acid techno attempts but loving how it sounds.
  • Feeling tempted to invest in a hardware tracker like a Digitakt or an OP-Z.

Being globally confused

  • Wondering what the hell I'm doing with life and going through an existential crisis.
  • Failing to prioritize my bazillion projects. As usual.
  • Starting to read David Graeber's Debt: The First 5000 Years. It's awfully interesting so far.
  • Working on various small improvements for Auspex.
  • Going further than I ever did in Pathfinder: Kingmaker, and enjoying it.
  • Having a blast with the Orba I kickstarted ages ago and finally received. So much fun!

Drawing again

  • Rediscovering the simple joy of drawing with a pen after a couple of decades.
  • Adding sitelen sitelen glyphs support to Pimeja.
  • Starting Inktober with sitelen sitelen and people seem to like what I posted.
  • Managing to fix my broken card deck system for Auspex, finally!
  • Relearning to type on my now legendless ortholinear keyboard. Easier than I thought.
  • Attempting one more time a Pathfinder: Kingmaker playthrough.

Fearing the future

  • Reading Sum by David Eagleman. It's thought-provoking, but it lacks universality and feels incomplete.
  • Watching The Social Dilemma and feeling awful, even if I am already aware of the topic.
  • Revelling in the silent solace brought by my new noise-cancelling headphones.
  • Wondering who I am and what defines me as a human being.
  • Discovering the stunning work of Stuart McMillen.
  • Thinking that writing short stories could be something I might attempt in the future.
  • Trying to update Opuscule with a proper Toki Pona glyphs export.
  • Debugging Auspex, again and again.
  • Finding an excuse to do Inktober despite feeling close to burn out and not liking the TM controversy.
  • Starting to learn sitelen sitelen in preparation for Inktober.

Slowly burning out

  • Testing ways of implementing a simple Toki Pona translation exercises system in a HTML file.
  • Thinking about writing a long form piece about conflict in video games and empathy systems.
  • Doing crazy good scores on old Melodics lessons I gave up silver-starring months ago.
  • Feeling generally tired and thinking I need some actual vacations.
  • Giving another try to meditation. It's quite helpful for letting off steam so far.
  • Starting to look into Taoism, since Toki Pona was inspired by it.
  • Still debugging and refactoring various parts of the Auspex combat code.

toki pona li pona

  • Implementing old and unofficial words in Pimeja, my Toki Pona dictionary.
  • Testing new array functions in RPG in a Box to add actual card-based mechanics to Auspex.
  • Still playing Littlewood. I really enjoy this game, its simplicity and laid-back mood make it special.
  • Starting debates on the supremacy of violence in video games and the lack of empathy-based systems.
  • Realizing Toki Pona may be a fantastic tool for exploring the universe of my Forlorn Tree game project.
  • Designing a new tool to help learning Toki Pona with a variety of translation exercises.

Lacking sleep

  • Figuring out how to remap my MIDI Fighter 3D on iOS with Midiflow.
  • Relearning how to type on an ortholinear keyboard and how to tweak QMK keymaps.
  • Fighting with QMK to remap my Plaid keyboard and understand how to configure the two LEDs.
  • Trying to get more sleep, and realizing I may in fact need a lot more.
  • Thinking about switching to a 2 unit spacebar.
  • Implementing a few small improvements to Opuscule.
  • Still playing Littlewood whenever I find a bit of time, and loving how relaxing it is.
  • Trying Jason Rohrer's Project December. It's unstable and AI Dungeon is more fun.
  • Debugging my latest additions to the tile-based combat modifiers system of Auspex.
  • Starting to write game design notes in Toki Pona for a hypothetic game in Toki Pona.

Doing too many things

  • Setting my Atom feed with a one-week offset to avoid displaying an empty new week.
  • Refactoring old Opuscule code, since a few people have shown interest lately. So much bloat!
  • Banging my head against Godot's internal logic, but managing to clean up old bugs nonetheless.
  • Wondering why I didn't get AUM when I started to explore iOS music a couple of years ago.
  • Implementing an exciting new strategic layer to Auspex with a set of tile-based events.
  • Writing more Toki Pona short texts. Nothing worth showing off yet.
  • Adding a Toki Pona HTML export with sitelen pona pona glyphs to Opuscule.
  • Earning a 420 day streak badge on Melodics for pads.
  • Head banging on acid tracks I've started to compose on my phone.
  • Building a Plaid keyboard and readapting my Levinson keymap.

Messing with a Pi 4

  • Discovering a brand new micro SD card can get corrupt for no apparent reason.
  • Exploring alternate Pi OS: 9front (alien), RISC OS (useless) and Twister OS (pretty).
  • Enhancing this hand-coded, now weekly, "now" page and trying Eleventy (it rocks!)
  • Writing poems in Toki Pona (I've only "published" one for now.)
  • Working on the combat system of Auspex (the follow-up to Oracles.)
  • Trying to send MIDI from my Raspberry Pi 4 to my iPad.
  • Having a blast figuring out how to make acid techno/house/dub on iOS.
  • Preparing myself mentally to build that new keyboard. Keycaps are still in production.
  • Thinking that I will need a projects page or something similar soon...

Starting a now page

  • Developing this hand-coded monthly "now" page. Yes, in a way, it's a blog.
  • Learning Toki Pona. I've set up a forum and developed a dictionary.
  • Turning Oracles, my Hyperjam entry, into a full roguelike.
  • Trying to figure out what to do with my Raspberry Pi 4. Messing with Plan 9, maybe?
  • Practicing finger drumming and playing the steel tongue drum. 400 day streak!
  • Trying to set up an iOS workflow to make acid techno/house/dub.
  • Brewing water kefir, kombucha tea and beer with home-grown hops.
  • Waiting for a few missing parts to build a new keyboard.
  • Playing Littlewood on my GPD Win.
