Roasted Brussel Sprouts
A dead simple vegan recipe
Brussel sprouts are some kind of miniature cabbages with a rather specific taste. Usually, people either love them or hate them. I'm in the first category, hence this short recipe.
I'm mainly used to boil them. Sometimes, I also cook them with a frying pan. Last time, I discovered they could be prepared with an oven. The result was so much better than my usual attempts that I decided to share the result. I'm a lousy and a lazy cook, but this is special.
It's really simple:
- Wash your Brussel sprouts and cut them in half.
- Put them in an oven dish or on an oven plate.
- Pour generous quantity of olive oil on your sprouts.
- Add a bit of salt and pepper.
- Cook in the oven at 180 °C for 30 minutes.
You should get slightly roasted Brussel sprouts with a nice light brown color on the upper part. Since they're cut in half, they should also be a bit crispy. I absolutely loved the result.
Now, you can enhance this a bit with a variety of options:
- You can't go wrong with balsamic vinegar.
- For something more spicy, a few drops of tabasco or sriracha may do wonders.
- Someone suggested to add a bit of nutmeg, and I'm sure it tastes awesome.
- Another connoiseur recommended some lemon juice. Yummy!
- Try adjusting temperature and duration for optimal crispy results.
